Congress party’s mega kisan rally saw all the bigwigs of the party on the dais. Party President Sonia Gandhi, Vice President Rahul Gandhi, former PM Manmohan Singh and AICC General Secretary Digvijay Singh.
Each of the leaders took turns to attack the Modi-led government for making changes in UPA’s Land Bill.
Farmers from Haryana (on the left) begin to leave while Congress President Sonia Gandhi is still speaking.
Sonia Gandhi: The relief being offered to farmers now is nothing when compared with what the UPA government had offered. We had given four times the market rate.
Sonia Gandhi: Thank you very much for coming here in such huge numbers and strengthening our resolve.
Sonia Gandhi says, “We have gathered here today to send a strong message to the government that we will not tolerate this injustice.”
Rahul Gandhi says, “Make in India is a dream that will not succeed. They will take away your land and you will have no other job”.
If they really believed in Make in India, why did they change the 5-year clause? We assured farmers that if we fail to build on the acquired land in five years then it will be given back to the farmers. why was it changed?
Rahul Gandhi: All that Modi govt has done is to reduce irrigation budget and ordering lathicharge on protesting farmers.
Rahul Gandhi: Prime Minister Modi has taken huge amount of loans from the industry lobby. How do you think he is going to repay that loan? He is using the land acquired from farmers to repay them.
Rahul Gandhi: Today farmers are worried because they don’t know their future in this country. They don’t know what will happen with their land tomorrow.
AICC General Secretary Digvijay Singh lauds Rahul Gandhi’s efforts at Bhatta-Parsaul villages in Uttar Pradesh in 2011.
Attacking the ordinance brought in by the government, Singh said that it is not only against the UPA’s 2013 bill is but will also wipe-out benefits for farmers.
