Oommen Chandy on Friday stepped down as Chief Minister of Kerala, handing over his resignation to Kerala Governor P Sathasivam.

The CPI-M led LDF swept the assembly polls by securing 91 seats in the 140 member Kerala Assembly after the votes was counted on Thursday.

He issued a statement on his Facebook page, thanking people for the help and support that he and his government got since he came to power in May 2011.

We will never blame the people. We failed to reach the people with our achievements. I now wish the new government all the best and expect that all the development projects that they started and which has reached its last stage be quickly completed. BJP’s vote share hasn’t increased much compared to last polls, Congress will face no problem in returning to power.
