Delhi’s Lt Governor Anil Baijal on Monday, 15 January, approved the AAP government’s ambitious “doorstep delivery of services.” This comes as tremendous relief to the government, who had to formerly face the LG’s disapproval and which had eventually led to a seemingly political scuffle.

Arvind Kejriwal took to Twitter to express his joy and gratitude saying “all citizens of Delhi are grateful” to the LG.

Previously, LG Anil Baijal, who has been appointed by the Centre, had returned the proposal to the Delhi government, raising several objections that included safety of citizens and corruption and had asked the AAP government to reconsider it.

According to an Economic Times report, Delhi’s Deputy CM Manish Sisodia had in retaliation asked Baijal if he was trying to “protect” the corrupt system by opposing the proposal.

On 31 December, Kejriwal had also told PTI that they would resend the doorstep delivery proposal to the Lt Governor with detailed replies to all objections.

Finally, after having received the LG’s acceptance the CM has tweeted his gratitude, putting behind them the tussle.

The move is aimed at reducing traffic at the government offices. According to a DNA report, 40 public services which will now be covered under the scheme in the first phase will include caste certificates, income certificates, driving licenses, handicap pension schemes, domicile certificates, Lal Dora certificates etc.
