Congress’ Jagdish Tytler on Monday refused to undergo lie detector test before Delhi's Karkardooma Court for the 1984 Anti-Sikh Riots case.

The case pertained to the riots at Gurudwara Pulbangash in North Delhi, where three people were killed on 1 November 1984, a day after the assassination of then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

The CBI had earlier given him a clean chit, but re-opened the investigation after allegations were made by arms dealer Abhishek Verma, who is a prosecution witness.

Verma has alleged that Tytler tried to bribe another witness, Surender Singh, by giving him money and promising to send his son to Canada.

Earlier in April, Tytler had refused to undergo a lie-detector test in connection with the case as it amounted to cruelty.

Tytler's counsel objected to the test, saying the CBI has not given any reason for conducting it, and the agency's plea for the test was a "gross misuse of law" and it was filed with "mala fide intention".

The counsel for controversial arms dealer Abhishek Verma told the court that his client was unwell, and sought time for his personal appearance to explain the conditions for undergoing the polygraph test.

The court granted time to Verma's counsel and listed the matter for 2 June for further proceedings.

The court had on 9 May directed Tytler and Verma to give an "unambiguous" reply on whether they wanted to undergo lie detection test. It had held that the CBI's plea for obtaining their consent for the test was maintainable.
