Ex-servicemen continue to protest at New Delhi’s Jantar Mantar with their demand for One Rank One Pension.

Retired Havaldar Ashok Kumar Chouhan joined Col Pushpendra Singh (Retd) and Havaldar Major Singh in a “fast unto death” at the venue.

Army veterans were expecting a formal announcement on OROP by the Prime Minister at his Independence Day speech. But they were disappointed to hear only a mention, and no time-frame of implementation.

OROP is expected to benefit more than 3 million retired servicemen. It is supposed to provide equal pension to servicemen retiring at the same rank regardless of when they retire. At present, a soldier who retired years ago is paid far less than someone several ranks junior retiring now.
