Bangalore-based Information Technology (IT) giant Wipro has registered a police complaint in response to an email threatening the company with an attack if it fails to pay an amount of Rs 500 crore in the form of bitcons.
According to an India Today report, the email says that Wipro's Bengaluru offices will be attacked if the firm does not transfer the amount within 29 days from the date of the email. The email has come from the ID Ramesh2@protonmail.com.
Interestingly, the email threatens to carry out the attack via ricin, which is a highly toxic natural substance. It further says that envelopes containing the substance would be sent to the company's offices in the next few days to underline the seriousness of the threat.
It [ricin] would be used through food served at your cafeteria, disperse it using a flying drone or even on the toilet seat or the toilet paper with which you wipe your ar*e.. you get the point.
In response to the threat, Wipro said that it has enhanced security at its offices.
With the complaint being lodged and an FIR filed under Section 66F of the IT Act at a cyber crime police station, the authorities will be launching a probe into the case.
