In the aftermath of Aamir Khan’s controversial removal from the government’s Incredible India campaign, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has asked for a report from the tourism ministry about why the Bollywood actor has been removed as its brand ambassador, according to The Indian Express.

Principal Secretary to the PM Nripendra Mishra asked Tourism Minister Mahesh Sharma to submit the timeline of the campaign and also the contract they drew with Khan.

This interaction took place on Thursday and the Sharma was asked for the report on the same day.

Sharma had on Wednesday said that the contract with advertising agency McCann Worldgroup for the Incredible India campaign had expired.

The step to remove Khan as the brand ambassador of the campaign sparked pretty strong reactions from the social media and political circle. Many believed the actor’s removal followed his comments on “growing intolerance” in India during an award function last November.

Aamir however gave his reaction to the media on Thursday saying that there was no contract in place and it was done purely “ to be of service to my country”.

However, sources told ANI that no such report has been asked for.
