Congress activist, Tehseen Poonawala, has sent a “caution” notice to the government for its “failure” to fulfil the promise of depositing Rs 15 lakh in the bank accounts of every Indian citizen.

To remind Prime Minister Narendra Modi of his pre-poll promise of bringing back black money stashed abroad and depositing Rs 15 lakh in every Indian’s bank account, Poonawala recently wrote to him.

He had sent a legal notice to the PMO on the issue which has now informed him that the matter has been referred to the Department of Revenue in the Finance Ministry for “action as appropriate”.

Poonawalla has plans of approaching the Election Commission and the Supreme Court on the issue.

He says Modi is in violation of an electoral promise made by Modi in the run up to the 2014 Lok Sabha polls.
