Over the last five months you would have heard many things about me, first I’d like to tell you I’m entirely innocent. All the accusations against me are incorrect and baseless. Over the last five months, my opinion wasn’t asked for. Many people thought I was at fault.

Vikas Barala, accused of stalking and attempted abduction by senior Haryana bureaucrat's daughter Varnika Kundu, was granted bail on 11 January, Thursday.

A day later, he released a video with a statement where he said he was being targeted due to his father’s role in politics. Vikas is the son of Haryana BJP chief Subhash Barala.

My father is a national party’s state president. Due to that, many parties are targeting me to tarnish the political image of my father.

He also spoke about the trauma he and his family went through over the last five months, “I cannot even begin to tell you the mental torture and trauma that my mother, sister, near and dear ones have been through in the last five months.” He also claimed that his father wasn’t able to meet him or his lawyer due to fear of backlash.

Varnika Kundu responded to the statement released by Barala by saying all of it were “absolute lies.”
