Two women rescued a baby from their apartment complex in Bengaluru after she was abandoned by her mother.

The security guard at the colony said that a pregnant woman from a nearby slum would often visit the complex, asking to use the toilet, as Times of India reported.

Mythri Manjunath came home from work at 9:30 pm when she was informed about the newborn girl on the pavement, outside her building on Begur Main Road, near Electronics City. She found the baby, covered in blood, near the compound wall. She phoned her friend Sushma Sathyanarayana who also lives in the same building.

They cleaned the baby and the baby stopped hollering, which worried the two women. No one wanted to accompany them to the hospital to make sure the baby was taken care of.

We asked the people in the apartment, especially the men, if they could accompany us to the hospital. But nobody wanted to get involved in the case. They just stood there clicking photos.

Once they admitted the baby to the hospital, the doctor told them they had arrived just in time or the infant would not have made it.

Hunt for the Mother

After the baby was admitted to the hospital, the two women lodged a complaint with the police and received a call that they found the mother, while they were on their way back home.

We reached the apartment and the police informed us that the woman who gave birth to the baby lived in a slum next to our apartment. The woman had told the police that she didn’t want the baby and had left her at the apartment as a result.

The police asked the women to talk to the mother to keep her baby but she was adamant that she did not want the child.

The woman was found to be a widow with two other children. Poverty and the fear of social stigma made her want to give the baby up. Eventually the two women convinced her to keep her baby.
