In a landmark judgment, the Supreme Court on 22 August struck down the practice of Triple Talaq as unconstitutional. The decision was reached with a 3:2 split in a five judge-bench of the Supreme Court.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded the SC’s decision on Triple Talaq and called it a move that grants equality to Muslim women. Many Muslim women have also come forward to express how this is a great move and a step towards the freedom and independence of Muslim women.
