Yakub Memon’s mercy plea has been rejected by President Pranab Mukherjee, after Home Minister Rajnath Singh met him to convey the Home Ministry’s decision.
In 2014, President Pranab had rejected Memon’s first clemency petition. Earlier, after the Supreme Court (SC) dismissed Yakub Memon’s curative petition against the death sentence handed to him in the 1993 Bombay blasts case, the Maharshtra Governor rejected his mercy plea. Yakub’s petition was dismissed by a three-judge bench of the Supreme Court that was constituted yesterday.
The SC stated that there was no procedural lapse in the hearing of his curative petition.
