Top sources in the Intelligence Bureau have revealed to The Quint that India’s focus is to bring Dawood Ibrahim back from Pakistan alive. We also learn that while Chhota Rajan was in Australia, he had offered to surrender to the Indian government, to be safe from Dawood. Later, the Australian government too requested India to deport him fearing that his presence could lead to terror activities on their land.

Eventually, Rajan was moved by the Indian government to Indonesia to surrender before the Bali police. Rajan is likely to be kept in the CBI headquarters or Delhi Police headquarters after being brought to Delhi.

What Ajit Doval Wants

According to IB sources, India’s National Security Advisor Ajit Doval’s prime focus is to bring Dawood back to India alive. The same sources also claim India knows Dawood’s exact location in Pakistan.

Doval is known to be an aggressive operator but despite being aware of Dawood’s location he would prefer to use diplomatic channels to bring him back to India, rather than taking any drastic measures.

Doval’s strategy is to record Rajan’s statement and collect material evidence to substantiate his testimony.

Rajan’s testimony can be used to put pressure on Pakistan to hand over Dawood. Doval would be keen to bring him back alive because if at all Dawood is killed in Pakistan, that would give rise to uncomfortable questions.

Doval is confident of nailing Dawood. He knows that Rajan’s mole still exists in D-company. Rajan had shown his loyalty to Indian Intelligence agencies in the last few years by passing on information on Dawood. The IB too returned the favour by tipping Rajan off and saving his life when he was attacked by Dawood in Bangkok in 2000.

Doval expects Rajan’s loyalty towards India to continue. In return, the NSA will ensure his safety.

What Chhota Rajan Wants

Chhota Rajan wants to remain in CBI’s custody in Delhi. He wants to avoid being handed over to the Mumbai police as he fears that some officials in the force are colluding with Dawood Ibrahim and might get Rajan killed

Rajan, who is also known as the ‘Hindu Don’, is known to have a lengthy association with NSA Ajit Doval. Rajan’s men were seen with Doval in July 2005 at Delhi’s Ashoka Hotel where they were allegedly planning the assassination of Dawood Ibrahim in Dubai.

It’s alleged that Rajan made a deal with the Indian government before he surrendered in Bali. It is likely that he may request investigative agencies to quash some of the cases against him before he lets out information on Dawood.

Of over 80 criminal cases against Rajan, there are several cases of terrorism too.

What Investigative Agencies Want

Whether it’s the CBI or the Delhi police or the Mumbai police – all them want custody of the infamous ‘Hindu Don’. Strangely, this time all three investigative agencies seem to be working in close cooperation to ensure that no information on Rajan is leaked to the media.

Certainly, the investigative agencies are worried about Rajan’s safety. Preparations are underway in Delhi as well in Mumbai to beef up security arrangements for Rajan.

Though Mumbai police is going ga ga about the 75 cases against Rajan, they will probably be the last one to get Rajan’s custody.

Rajan is likely to stay in CBI’s custody for at least a month. CBI will probably record Rajan’s statement on Dawood afresh, and Rajan is also likely to supply evidence to substantiate his testimony.
