The Shiv Sena has lashed out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing him of having “surrendered” to self proclaimed gau rakshaks or cow vigilantes “who have taken the law into their hands from Delhi to Nagpur”.
In an article in party mouthpiece Saamna, the Shiv Sena writes that “the law implementation machinery has been a mute spectator” to the brutal episodes of lynchings across the country.
In the editorial, the Sena likens cow vigilantism to a “business” that refuses to close down despite the PM’s repeated appeals.
Where were the “so-called gau rakshaks” when innocent people were killed in the 10 July attack on Amaranth yatris, the Sena questioned, adding: “the driver, who saved many of these pilgrims, was himself a Muslim.”
Lashing out at cow vigilantes for attacking people on suspicion of carrying or consuming beef, the Sena demanded to know if these self proclaimed cow vigilantes would attack BJP leaders who admit to having consumed beef.
The Shiv Sena also expressed surprise at the fact that only select BJP-run states had a ban on the sale of beef, instead of a uniform ban.
Why don’t these ‘gau rakshaks’ “face bullets” and fight terrorists in Kashmir, the Sena article demanded to know.
The saffron outfit also noted that Pakistan wants Hindus and Muslims to fight over miniscule issues so as to divide the nation over religion.
