Hours after a student protest over alleged inaction by the Nalanda University interim vice-chancellor (VC) against a student accused of sexual harassment, varsity authorities on Wednesday replaced the interim VC, Pankaj Mohan.
Sunaina Singh, currently head of EFLU in Hyderabad, will take over from Mohan.
Earlier on Wednesday evening, the University’s Communications Director, Smita Polite, had told The Quint that the appointment of a new VC had been scheduled earlier and was not linked to the sexual harassment controversy.
Mohan allegedly did not take the matter seriously after a student complained of being sexual harassed by a fellow student.
Students also claim that university authorities did not take any action despite its Internal Complaints Committee recommending that the accused student be expelled.
In response, around 100 students held a protest against him on Wednesday.
When contacted on Wednesday afternoon, Nalanda University authorities had told The Quint that the accused student had been suspended earlier on Wednesday, a day after being shifted to another hostel.
