You may be rich and famous, but there is no escaping the fury of crossed Mumbai commuters stuck in traffic chaos during morning rush hours.

Angry Pali Hill residents stalled the shooting of filmmaker Raju Hirani’s biopic on Sanjay Dutta starring Ranbir Kapoor for a good 40 minutes on Wednesday morning after the crew ended up blocking the road in the upscale locality, triggering a massive traffic jam that commuters were in no mood to brave.

The local residents also claimed that the film’s crew members had badly littered the road, leaving it unfit for use.

2.5 Acre Car Park at Sanjay Gandhi National Park?

Next time you’re at the Sanjay Gandhi National Park, instead of spotting a leopard, you may just spot a Jaguar. A car park may come up on a 2.5-acre chunk of land inside the park, if the state forests department has its way.

The department has sought the BMC’s No Objection Certificate (NOC) to dereserve and carve out the plot from the forest zone. The BMC administration has put the proposal before the civic General Body which will decide the issue in its meeting later this week. Officials say the car park is a necessity as there is not enough space to park cars right now. The SGNP’s proposal claims that no trees would be cut for the project since they had identified a barren patch of land for the car park.

The BMC claims that it had invited objections and suggestions from citizens in August last year, but did not receive a single response. “At the moment, there is space to park just 400 cars, which is not enough.

Colaba-Bandra-SEEPZ Metro: Can’t Massacre Environment: Bombay HC

The Bombay High Court on Tuesday came down heavily on the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) and asked it to prove it did not damage a children’s park while executing its Mumbai Metro Line III project.

A division bench of Chief Justice Manjula Chellur and Justice G S Kulkarni observed that environment cannot be massacred in the name of development.

“We understand that the Metro project is of utmost importance as it will ease the common man’s woes but you (MMRC) cannot massacre environment in the name of development. There should not be callousness and recklessness in damaging something that cannot be restored,” the court observed.
