In what could mean some temporary relief for ex-AAP minister Sandeep Kumar, the police investigation into the case of his sex CD has hit a dead end, reported The Times of India.

After the crime branch handed over the case to the local police, they have been scrambling for leads and any new evidence, the report added. Not only have they been unsuccessful in finding the device used to record the video, they have also failed to establish the time when it was recorded.

While in some still the date can be seen as 2010, the woman in the video, who has accused Kumar of rape, said it was shot 11 months ago. It is thus important for the police to establish the timeframe to take the case forward.

This also means that Kumar is likely to get a bail once the police remand is over. According to the report, the case might not even result in a conviction.

The police had, two days ago, detained Kumar’s personal secretary Praveen for circulation the CD. A 24 hours cross-examination of both Kumar and Praveen, where they kept blaming each other, has also not yielded anything.

On Tuesday, the cops leaked out another name, Mahipal, who may be behind the circulation of the video.

Even though the house where the video was allegedly made has been identified, it can’t be established in court as the police don’t have enough evidence to back the claim.

Adding to their embarrassment, cops have not been able to track the second ‘victim’ in the video.

There are also speculations that the police chief could transfer the case back to crime branch, the report added.

The case came to light after the CD surfaced last week. Though in the video, the act looked consensual, the woman in the video claimed that she was drugged and raped by Kumar and that the CD was made after he became a minister. However, the MLA has defended himself, claiming that he is being targeted.
