1. Telangana Exams: Revaluation Ordered As 17 Students End Lives

The Telangana government on Wednesday, 25 April, decided not to charge any fee for recounting and reverification of papers from failed students as protests against alleged bungling in declaration of intermediate examination results continued for the third day.

Three more intermediate students allegedly killed themselves due to failure in the exams during the last 24 hours, police said.

Some student organisations alleged that since 18 April, as many as 17 students across Telangana reportedly killed themselves as they failed or performed poorly in the exams.

2. ‘Will Fight for Statehood’: AAP Releases Manifesto for Elections

The Aam Aadmi Party on Thursday, 25 April, released their manifesto for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. National convenor Arvind Kejriwal and Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia were present at the unveiling, along with other senior party leaders.

The main theme of the manifesto is winning statehood for Delhi.

Speaking at the release of the manifesto, party chief Kejriwal said that the 2019 Lok Sabha polls is not just about one party's manifesto and the issues it raised, but about the future of the country.

“The 2019 elections is a turning point of sorts for India. This election is to save India, India’s people and the rich culture of India. The election is to save the democracy and constitution of our nation,” Kejriwal said.

3. Justice AK Patnaik Appointed to Probe 'Threat to Judiciary's Independence'

Former Supreme Court judge, Justice AK Patnaik has been appointed by the independent Bench set up to probe the threat to the independence of the Judiciary, brought about by the sexual harassment charges levelled against CJI Ranjan Gogoi.

The Bench of Justices Arun Mishra, Rohinton Nariman and Deepak Gupta have directed chiefs of the CBI, Intelligence Bureau (IB) and the Delhi Police to work closely with Patnaik to get to the bottom of the “larger conspiracy” to discredit the office of the CJI.

Justice Mishra observed that while the Bench could not discuss the details of the affidavit submitted by advocate Utsav Bains where he shares details of the conspiracy known to him, the time had come “to tell the rich and powerful that they can’t run the Supreme Court.”

Also, Justice Ramana, part of the special SC panel probing the sexual harassment accusations, recused himself from the committee after a letter by the complainant expressed concerns over Ramana’s closeness to the CJI and fear that it might influence the investigation.
