1. Nigerian Men Assaulted in Delhi for Protesting Against Holi Water-Balloons

Two Nigerian nationals were assaulted with cricket bats after one of them allegedly scolded a child for throwing water-filled Holi balloons on him.

According to an Indian Express report, the victims, one of them a football coach, were attacked by a group of 12 young men. The incident took place on Sunday at the Dwarka Mor in Delhi where the victims live. The police were reluctant to register the complaint but lodged the FIR after a senior police officer intervened.

2. TMC Leader Killed in Crude Bomb Attack

A Trinamool Congress leader was killed in an alleged attack by unidentified assailants at Kakdwip in the South 24 Parganas district of West Bengal. The incident has triggered tension in the area ahead of Assembly polls in the state.

A senior police officer said the victim, Haji Abdul Jehel Mollah (75), the Anchal Sabhapati, was returning home from an election meeting of local TMC candidate Manturam Pakhira at around 11:30 PM when crude bombs were hurled at him by unidentified persons. According to police, Mollah died on the spot and the assailants escaped amidst the melee while firing bullet shots.

3. Four Undertrial Escape Prison in Kalaburagi, Karnataka

Four undertrial prisoners escaped from the central prison on early Wednesday morning, according to a PTI report.

Three of the escaped prisoners were accused of raping minors while one of them was accused of murder.

According to the police, the prisoners broke through the window of the barrack in which they were lodged, scaled the outer wall and tied the bedsheets to climb down to escape into the darkness.

The three rape accused were booked under Protection of Children from Sexual Offices (POCSO) Act 2012. A manhunt has been launched to track down the prisoners and an investigation has been ordered to look into the matter.

4. Five Arrested for Firing at Teenage Girl and Stealing Electronics

Five people have been arrested for allegedly shooting at a 19-year-old girl and stealing electronics worth lakhs of rupees. The incident took place in south Delhi’s Moti Bagh area.

Rohit (25), Anil (24), Shivam (21), Sharwan (26) and Bobby (19) were arrested on Wednesday. Three more members of the gang are still at large.

The gang used to come from Ghaziabad and target only big shops and showrooms at night. In Delhi, the gang was mostly active in CR Park, Lodhi Colony, Lajpat Nagar, Mehrauli and South campus areas and had at least 27 cases registered against them, the police said.

5. Police Raids Multiple Gambling Dens on Holi

As many as 27 people were arrested and over Rs 36,000 cash was seized as police raided two places in Vizianagaram district of Andhra Pradesh, according to a PTI report.

The raids were conducted by the special branch police.

According to the police, 24 were arrested during a raid at the outskirts of Vasadi village in Gantyada mandal. The police seized Rs 31,220 in cash and 10 mobile phones.

Another special branch police team raided a gambling den at Sunkaraveedhi in Ashok Nagar in Vizianagaram town and arrested three persons, seizing Rs 5,680.

Gambling is a common habit practiced during the festival of Holi.

6. Director Booked for Making Derogatory Remarks Against Woman Journalist

Malayalam director Major Ravi has been booked for allegedly making derogatory remarks against a woman journalist at a public event over her purported remarks on Goddess Durga during a television debate, according to PTI report.

The case has been registered, following a complaint by journalist Sindhu Suryakumar under various sections of IPC including 500 (defamation), 501 (printing or engraving matter known to be defamatory) and 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman).

Known for his army-based films, Ravi, while speaking at a public function, had courted controversy by allegedly saying he would “spit on the face of Sindhu or on anyone who depicted goddess Durga in a poor light”. The director allegedly also made some sexist remarks against the scribe.

Police said an investigation was launched in this regard.

7. Man Held for Murder of Live-in Partner

A 35-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly throttling to death his 30-year-old live-in partner in southeast Delhi’s Govindpuri area, according to a PTI report.

Pawan (35) was arrested from a village near Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh. He is accused of having murdered Renu Devi, his live-in partner with whom he also had a child.

According to the police, Pawan returned home drunk on Saturday night and that led to an argument between Renu and him during which he allegedly throttled her in a fit of rage. After allegedly strangling her, he locked the door from outside and left for his village with their two-year-old daughter.

The matter came to light when Renu’s father came to her house on Wednesday and discovered her decomposed body. The post-mortem report suggested that Renu was killed at least three days back.

8. Youth Rapes Minor in Muzaffarnagar, UP and Films the Act

A youth in Muzaffarnagar area allegedly raped a 17-year-old minor girl and filmed the act.

The accused asked the girl not to disclose the incident to anyone, threatening otherwise he would circulate the clip on social media.

According to the police, other family members of the accused were also present in the house when the incident took place.

A case was registered on Wednesday on the directive of the SP City against Nadeem, his sister Afsana, father Ikram, uncle Kamil and mother Sarvari under sections 376 (rape), 120B (criminal conspiracy) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of IPC and POCSO Act

9. Man Kills Lover, Commits Suicide

A married woman was shot dead allegedly by her paramour before he turned the gun on himself in Bhura village of Shamli district.

Anil (30) first shot the woman dead while she was working in the fields and thereafter took his own life. The victim and Anil had a heated exchange before he shot her.
