1. Cabbie Held for ’Raping Passenger’

A taxi driver has been arrested for allegedly raping a woman passenger in Dwarka area in Delhi. The Indian Express reports that the police have caught the accused and filed an FIR. The victim works in a West Delhi shopping mall and had taken the taxi while returning home from Dwarka Mor Metro station. The cab driver reportedly parked his taxi along a dimly lit stretch of the road and assaulted the woman passenger. A motorcyclist who witnessed the crime alerted a PCR van standing some distance away.

Police said by the time the police car reached the spot, the cabbie had driven off. But the taxi was chased and intercepted.

Delhi Transport Minister Gopal Rai has reportedly written to the Centre asking for ban on mobile-based application which are used to run these cabs unless they fulfil all safety measures.

2. Man Held for Sending Obscene Texts, Nude Photographs to Woman

Mumbai Police arrested a 29-year-old man for allegedly sending obscene text messages and his nude photographs through an instant messaging app to a woman. The complainant who works as a senior executive in a bank said that the accused, an investment counsellor, started sending her those obscene messages on March 30, reports the Hindustan Times.

The accused sent his nude pictures to the woman, harassing her. After the woman lodged a complaint, we traced the accused using his mobile number,’’ said an officer from Azad Maidan police station.

Police have booked the accused under sections 354 A of the IPC and 67 A of the IT Act.

3. Four, Including Two Minors, Held for Raping Teen in Villupuram

Police in Tamil Nadu arrested four people, including two minor boys, on charges of gangraping a minor girl in Villupuram district. Police said the four accused raped a 15-year-old girl when she was alone in her aunt’s house. The incident was noticed by a woman in the neighbourhood who came to sweep her veranda, reports The Times of India.

The victim narrated the incident to her aunt who then lodged a complaint with the Kottakuppam police. Cops booked the four under sections 6 (punishment for aggravated penetrative sexual assault) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (Posco) 2012. A police team nabbed the four while they were attempting to escape to Puducherry in a bus.

4. Man Stabs Friend to Death

A 22-year-old man was stabbed to death by his friend during a drunken brawl in Bengaluru. According to a report in Deccan Herald, the victim along with his friend had gone to a bar where the duo had an argument over some financial matter. The accused stabbed the victim several times leading to his death. Meanwhile, the accused, who is an auto driver, has been arrested.

5. Notorious Drug Smuggler Held Near Border

Security forces have nabbed a notorious Punjab based drug smuggler near the international border, says a report in The Tribune.
Joginder Singh, a 22-year-old, was allegedly involved in smuggling heroin. Police investigations have revealed that the man had been staying at his maternal uncle’s house who is also allegedly involved in smuggling 21 kg heroin from Border outpost.

Officials said that a special operation was launched with the assistance of the Sriganganagar district police and the team apprehended Joginder alias Jeeta alias Shammi of Jhugge village in Ferozeour from a house in Rawla Mandi. The team also recovered two Pakistani SIMs, four Indian SIMs, a mobile phone and Rs 61,000 from his possession.
