1. FIR Against DCW Chief Maliwal for ‘Naming Rape Victim’
On Tuesday, police registered an FIR against the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chief, Swati Maliwal, for allegedly revealing the identity of a 14-year-old Dalit rape victim, who died on Sunday.
Law prohibits people from making public the name of rape survivors and the general practice is to avoid revealing details in news and public reports that could give away the wronged woman’s identity.
The Dalit girl died in hospital after a neighbour raped her repeatedly in north Delhi’s Burari on 23 July, and forced a corrosive substance down her throat, which damaged her internal organs.

2. 13 Jadavpur Students Accuse English Prof’s Son of Sexual Harassment
A student of English literature at the Jadavpur University of Kolkata in West Bengal discussed sexual harassment by another student named Eklavya Chaudhuri, son of a professor, at the complainant’s department.
After she spoke about her experience with Chaudhuri, 12 other women from the university came forward and shared their experience of sexual harassment by him.
Chaudhuri, son of Chandrayee Niyogi, Professor at Department of English at the Jadavpur University, was involved in a similar incident last year as well, according to the Eye Art Collective.

3. MP: Railway Employee Kills Woman Over Paid Sex, Chops Body Into Pieces
The woman agreed to a 48-year-old railway employee’s proposal for paid sex on Saturday night after they drank liquor together outside the Shahdol railway station in Madhya Pradesh.
Soon after, Ram Kishore Yadav brought the woman home to Railway Colony and they had an argument over payment. Irked, Yadav picked up an axe and a knife and hacked the woman to death.
Yadav used the same axe with which he had murdered the unidentified woman to chop the body into pieces in order to destroy evidence.Kamlendra Pancholi, Shahdol Police in-charge
Yadav, the father of five children who lived in Madhya Pradesh’s Umaria district, stashed the chopped hands, legs and head of the woman in a bag and dumped it.

4. 3 Senior Executives of Private Firm RSPL Convicted in Coal Scam Case
A special court on Tuesday convicted private firm Rathi Steel and Power Ltd (RSPL) and three of its senior officials in the Kesla North coal block case. The court observed that the accused “deceived” the government and made “false” representations before even the then PM Manmohan Singh to acquire the coal block.
This is the second case linked to ‘Coalgate’ in which the special court, which was set up to exclusively deal with all cases, has convicted the accused. Twenty other cases linked to ‘Coalgate’ are in different stages of trial in the same court.

5. Missing 5-year-old Girl’s Body Found in Navi Mumbai Creek
The body of the five-year-old girl, who went missing from her Wadala home with her 35-year-old father, was found floating in a creek near Nhava-Sheva in Navi Mumbai. Her father is still to be traced.
On Monday, the duo went missing from Wadala. Ashad Irshad Khan went missing on 21 July, along with his daughter Minal. On Thursday evening, Ashad, a medical representative with a private firm in Mumbai, texted his wife Shaziya, saying that he had killed Minal and was going to commit suicide. He also sent a suicide note on WhatsApp to all his contacts, informing them that he and his daughter were committing suicide because of harassment by his wife.

6. Court Issues Arrest Warrant Against DMDK Chief Vijayakanth, Wife
A court in Tirupur on Tuesday issued arrest warrants against DMDK leader Vijayakanth and his wife Premalatha after they repeatedly failed to appear before it in a defamation case filed against them.
Principal District Judge Alamelu Natarajan ordered arrest warrants against the two as they failed to appear before the court for the past three hearings and did not turn up on Tuesday also.

7. Chandigarh: Student Leader Shot at Twice in Hansi College Campus
Three unidentified men shot at and injured a student leader in the campus of Government PG College in Hansi town, Hisar district on Tuesday. Sandeep Gujjar was rushed to Hisar Civil Hospital after he suffered two gun shots in the abdomen.
Hisar DSP Narender Kadyan said Gujjar was out of danger and investigations were in progress. The incident occurred at 3.15pm when Gujjar and his friends were sitting in the parking area of the college. Three masked men on a motorcycle entered the college wielding firearms.

8. AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan’s Bail Plea Rejected
On Tuesday, the Saket court in Delhi dismissed the bail plea of AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan, who was arrested for allegedly threatening a woman with rape and murder, and sent him to judicial custody for 14 days. Khan is also accused of attempting to run over the woman with his car.
A 35-year-old woman had filed a case against Khan on 20 July for allegedly threatening her with dire consequences. A case was registered against the legislator under Sections 506 and 509 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at the Jamia Nagar police station in south Delhi.

9. Robbers Gang Busted, Four Criminals Nabbed in Hyderabad
West Zone police busted an interstate gang and arrested four people who kidnapped and killed a trader for just Rs 230.
The gang used to stand near MGBS bus station and rob pedestrians by forcibly dragging them to the isolated river bed of Musi. They robbed three people in the last two weeks in the same manner, in which one victim died and two others were injured.
The suspects started out with petty thefts and then turned to full scale robbery.
