1. Inter-state Drug Racket Busted, Five Arrested in J&K

Ten kg each of “high quality” heroin and brown sugar were confiscated, and five people were arrested as an inter-state drug racket was busted in Jammu city. The police also seized cash worth Rs 11.44 lakh from the smugglers.

The police, according to The Indian Express, are calling it one of the biggest seizure of narcotics smuggled in from across the Line of Control.

The five alleged drug peddlers, including two youngsters, were arrested on Monday night.

2. Man Uses Swachh Bharat Campaign to Cover Up Wife’s Murder

A man in Rajasthan killed his wife and buried her in a toilet pit after getting tired of tending to her everyday. The Swachh Bharat campaign provided the perfect cover for his plan.

The accused, identified as Chandmal Jain, apparently thought no one in his neighbourhood would find it odd if he constructed a toilet pit in his house, in which he buried his wife.

Jain, who is from Majergaon, had told his relatives and friends that his wife had gone back to her parent’s home, but after over a month of avoiding suspicion he ran away to Kandivali.

The police cops dug up the decomposed remains of Jain’s wife in his house and asked the Samta Nagar police to nab the accused.

3. Brother Objects to Minor Sister’s Live-in Relationship, Gets Shot

A 20-year-old man in New Delhi’s Vijay Vihar area was allegedly shot by his sister’s lover for objecting to a live-in relationship with his sister, according to a report in The New Indian Express.

The sister was allegedly abducted by a youth and they had been staying together for the past year. She returned to her parent’s home after she had a quarrel with the man, who then followed her home. That is when her brother confronted him and objected to their relationship, after which he was allegedly shot.

The police are on a hunt to nab him.

4. Ganja Worth Over Rs 12 Lakh Seized, Four Men Arrested

Police in Visakhapatnam arrested four men with 200 kg of ganja on them.

According to police sources, the men had been planning to transport the marijuana in Hyderabad in a Tavera car. They would have sold the narcotics for double the rate at which they acquired it, in Nagpur.

5. CBI Court Convicts Former Income Tax Inspector for Bribe

A former income tax inspector was sentenced to four years rigorous imprisonment and slapped with a fine of Rs 1.50 lakh for demanding bribe from an income tax assessee.

CBI laid a trap and caught the accused Jai Prakash accepting a negotiated bribe of Rs 90,000 from the complainant.

6. Mother Poisons Her Two Kids, Attempts Suicide in UP

Reeling under financial difficulties, a mother killed her two children by poisoning and attempted suicide in Nawada village under Gagalhedi police station area here.

Roopa, wife of a labourer, lived in the village with her two children -- Atul (5) and Simran (3). Grappling with financial problems, the woman today fed poison to her children when her husband had went out for work. She later consumed the toxic substance herself also, SSP (Dehat) Jagdish Sharma said.

7. SUV Runs Over Man Sleeping on Footpath in Kolkata

A 60-year-old man was on Tuesday killed and five others injured when an SUV ran over them while they were sleeping on a footpath in the Maniktala area of north Kolkata.

The victims were mostly vegetable sellers and were sleeping when a car lost control and hit them at around 1:30 am.

The possibility of that the driver was drunk is still being investigated.

8. Elderly Woman Killed in Front of Mentally-challenged Brother in Mumbai

Manjulaben Manilal Vora, a 77-year-old woman, was murdered in her flat in Mumbai on Monday.

The suspected killer, believed to be in his 30s, ran away after the woman’s family doctor came home and asked him about the woman’s whereabouts.

Vora lived in a 3-BHK apartment of a seven-storey building with her brother Ravilal Doshi, 85, who has an intellectual disability.

The family doctor is the key witness in the case as Doshi was unable to narrate the incident.

9. Vegetable Vendor Rapes Minor in Hyderabad

A vegetable vendor was taken into custody for allegedly raping and impregnating a 14-year-old girl in Hyderabad, according to a report.

The girl, who had been employed under him became pregnant after the man, Yesuappa (50), raped her.

The girl was sent for medical examination and investigations are on.
