1. Bihar Polls: 58% Newly Elected MLAs Face Criminal Charges

Altogether 58 per cemt of the 243 MLAs elected in 2015 face criminal charges. RJD tops the list with 46 out of its 80 MLAs in that category.

The average assets per MLA elected this time is Rs 3.02 crore. In 2010, it was only Rs 82.46 lakh. For more read here.

2. DCW to Survey Reason Behind Only 13 FIRs in 4,000 Complaints

The Delhi Commission for Women will undertake a study on the nature of over 4,000 complaints received by the Delhi Police’s ‘Himmat’ application and find out why FIRs were registered only in 13 such cases.

3. Maharashtra Seeks List of Cops ‘Working’ for Dawood From CBI

Senior home officials in Mumbai said that they would seek from the CBI the list of police officers that were allegedly working for India’s most wanted underworld don Dawood Ibrahim after Chhota Rajan informed them about it.

This is significant as Rajan has been accusing senior Mumbai police officers for working with his rival Ibrahim, the main accused in 1993 Mumbai blast. Full report here.

4. Runaway American Girl Found in Bhatinda

A 16-year-old American girl was rescued from Bhatinda Railway Station in Punjab. She had gone missing since Sunday last. Delhi police handed her over to the parents. The girl, who lived in South Delhi’s Greater Kailash area with her family, had fled from her home after an altercation with her younger sister.

5. CBI May Probe Chhota Rajan’s Network in South East Asia

The CBI is now preparing to tighten the noose around Chhota Rajan’s remaining business and associates in the south east Asian region.

6. Kashmir: Students Clash With Security Forces Over Youth’s Killing

Hundreds of students who were clashing with police over the death of a youth, were dispersed in Jammu and Kashmir using force.

The students, all from the SSM College of Engineering, were protesting the death of 22-year-old Gowhar Dar, who died after being hit by a tear gas shell last week. Full report available here.

7. Rs 14 Crore Noisy Chinese Crackers Seized, Customs on the Lookout

A drive conducted by the Mumbai Customs and Directorate of Revenue Intelligence has managed to confiscate multiple consignments of crackers worth Rs 14 crore since the past five months.

The Chinese crackers contain potassium chloride that is hazardous to children, which is why the Union government had not given import licences for these. Read the full report here.

8. Cop Beaten up by Gang of 20 During Diwali Shopping, Wife Molested

A cop was brutally assaulted by a gang of 20 men in Pune when he went to protect a hawker from getting beaten up by them. The gang followed the cop till his house where they also allegedly molested his wife and daughter.

9. Meghalaya: Minors Found Quarrying Coal Despite NGT Ban

Meghalaya police have unearthed cases of minors being engaged in the illegal extraction of coal, in spite of the National Green Tribunal’s interim ban on coal mining since April 2014.
