The general elections are around the corner and the Congress has upped its ante with the appointment of Priyanka Gandhi as the Congress General Secretary of Uttar Pradesh (East), marking her entry into active politics.
Meanwhile, the party has appointed Jyotiraditya Scindia as the AICC general secretary of UP West and replaced Ashok Gehlot as AICC general secretary Organisation with KC Venugopal.
“We’re fired up and ready to go,” Congress tweeted on the new appointments, sounding the poll bugle. Despite the opposition’s reservations about the move, Congress leaders and workers hailed the move with celebrations in the party bastions, Rae Bareli and Amethi.
“We are extremely happy and optimistic with the appointment of Priyanka Gandhi. It will benefit Rahul Gandhi and he will become an excellent prime minister,” a Congress party worker in Amethi said.
Another Congress supporter claimed, Priyanka Gandhi’s entry has stirred a storm in Indian politics and that victory is inevitable for Rahul Gandhi.
Reiterating the confidence and support to Priyanka, a Congress supporter said, “Priyanka Gandhi nayi aandhi hai, woh doosri Indira gandhi hai,”(Priyanka Gandhi is the new storm, she is the new Indira Gandhi.)
