Twitter and Facebook have brought politicians and the public onto a single platform. Communication democratised. But it can be cruel. ‘Cos Twitter never forgets.
Earlier this week, when Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan suspended 25 Congress MPs, Congress leaders like Digvijaya Singh and Shashi Tharoor were angry and said so.
However, Twittervasis were quick to point out the hypocrisy of their stand.
On 3rd August, here’s what Digvijaya Singh tweeted.
Digvijaya also tweeted last month that the Congress had learnt to disrupt Parliament from the BJP.
But the Twitter universe dug up his own tweets from 2011.
So, does Digvijay Singh’s take on disruptions in Parliament depend on who’s doing the disrupting?
Even Congress MP Shashi Tharoor who commands a massive Twitter following was not spared. This is what he tweeted just this week.
Twittizens were quick to dig up and show Tharoor his earlier tweets
In December 2013 too, Tharoor had tweeted in response to Parliament being disrupted by the then BJP led opposition.
When reminded of his earlier tweets, Tharoor argued that the response to the disruption by BJP MPs then, was not suspension.
And then, Sanjay Jha - In a tweet with apparent reference to the Speaker’s suspension of Congress MPs, the party’s national spokesperson tweeted:
Back in 2012, when the Congress-led UPA was still in power, Jha had slammed the BJP for the Parliament logjam and called the move “anti-national”. His 2012 Tweet (below) was quickly called out.
