Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, who is constructing an unprecedented length of quality roads across the country has offered to help the BMC to improve the longevity of its roads.

Responding to Mid-Day, Gadkari said the city administration needed to adopt international codes, mixtures, and technology to construct roads, which otherwise develop potholes time and again. He was speaking after reviewing Maharashtra's road and irrigation projects at the residence of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.

"My ministry does not control any roads in Mumbai, but I can tell you that the city if it collaborates with the National Highways Authority of India, could do wonders in terms of constructing quality roads," he said.

At least 75,000 students of the University of Mumbai still face uncertainty over their results, even as the varsity has reached the fag end of result declarations.

Of these, 57,099 students’ answer sheets are yet to be corrected, while the answer sheets of at least 28,498 students remain untraced in the system, revealed university officials in the first press conference since the results debacle began.

“In some cases, the results of two or three subjects are pending per student. Taking this into account, around 75,000 students are yet to get their results,” said Arjun Ghatule, acting director, board of examinations and evaluation. Acting Vice Chancellor Devanand Shinde said the results would be announced “at the earliest”, and that a deadline could not be set.

7. Contractor Kicked out of 2 Seafront Projects

Nearly three weeks after Mirror reported how repairs meant to improve the Bandstand and Carter Road promenades have left them in a terrible condition instead, authorities have decided to blacklist the contractor.

Officials from the Maharashtra Maritime Board (MMB), which had ordered the renovations, and MP Poonam Mahajan, legislator Ashish Shelar and residents inspected the two seafront pathways on Monday. Unimpressed by the progress of the projects, officials agreed to terminate the agreement of Unitech Construction (P) Ltd and also blacklist it.

“The contractor has delayed the work and it is unlikely that it can be completed in the time left. The firm has violated the contractual time limit. Even the quality of work is questionable,” Shelar said. “Since the project could be not completed, the firm will be blacklisted.”
