  • On Firday, the Kerala High Court declined bail to 39 accused in the Kollam Puttingal temple fireworks that claimed 109 lives in April this year.

  • The court, however, granted bail to two other accused stating that they had no active role in causing the explosion.

  • Refusing bail to the accused, which included the temple trust officials, the judge observed that the state had developed an “unhealthy cultural practice,” celebrating religious festivals with fireworks or elephant parades.
