1. Onboard Ticketing To Start In AC Local Soon
In good news for local-train commuters, the Western Railways is planning to introduce an onboard ticketing system in the AC local in seven to 10 days.
Currently, existing pass-holders must upgrade their pass to travel by the premium train. Once the plan is implemented, they will be able to purchase their ticket on the train itself.
Confirming the development, Mukul Jain, divisional railway manager, Western Railways, Mumbai Central Division, said: “In the next seven to 10 days, commuters will be able to buy journey tickets in the air-conditioned local train, just like they do on buses.”

2. Covers Come Off Fountain; Work To Resume Soon
Work on the restoration of Flora Fountain is set to begin soon, after being suspended for over a month as a result of a payment dispute between the BMC and the Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH), tasked with restoring the heritage landmark. BMC officials said INTACH would begin the restoration work in a couple of days.
“We have been told the work will resume in a few days. We have written to them asking them to restart the work soon. We will have a meeting with INTACH representatives to resolve any issues,” said NP Mane, chief engineer of the BMC’s Building Maintenance department.

3. New Care Centre For Kids With Severe TB
The country’s first centre of excellence for treating kids suffering from drug-resistant strains of tuberculosis will be soon created at Parel’s Bai Jerbai Wadia Hospital for Children under a public-partnership, which also involves the civic body.
A team of experts will diagnose and treat young patients of multidrug-resistant (MDR) and extensively drug-resistant (XDR) strains under one roof. The doctors will have access to better detection facilities, including GeneXpert machines, than currently found at public hospitals in the city. Wadia already has a TB clinic.

4. Bag That Space
You are lucky to have a seat in a crowded local train. A passenger, who does not, asks you to hold his bag so that there is more space for those standing. Will you oblige? A bunch of commuters on the Central Line has launched a campaign to ask seated passengers to not only spare the rack space for the bags of those standing, but also offer to hold their belongings to create more room for standees.
The brains behind the campaign – titled ‘Bag pakad, jagah bana’ (hold the bag, create space) – estimate that five to six bags occupy 4 sq ft, which in Mumbai’s crush hour is a luxury.

5. Fake ACP Lured Three Women Into Marriage
Interrogations of the man arrested for posing as an assistant commissioner of police and duping job aspirants has revealed that he donned the same uniform to lure three women into marriage. Police sources said the accused, Lalit Omprakash Sawant, 45, also had relationships with other women.
While two of the wives stayed at flats he owned in Virar – one in Global City and the other in HDIL Residency Park – neither of them suspected anything wrong. “He used to tell them that he was working the night shift whenever he wouldn’t return home. This way, they never suspected him,” said a police officer from Mumbai crime branch. Police are still tracing the details of his third wife.

6. Rs 2.25 Lakh Siphoned off From 86-Yr-Old’s Account
An 86-year-old man lost Rs 2.25 lakh of his life savings to fraudsters who siphoned off money from his ICICI Bank account through 10 suspicious transactions in one single day in August 2017.
Shyamkant Pant, who lives with his son Prasad in Regency building in Eden Woods CHS in Vasant Vihar, Thane, was shocked when he discovered the fraud in December. He has lodged an FIR under Information Technology Act provisions at Chitalsar police station in Thane.

7. Temperature In Mumbai Expected to Drop In Next Few Days
The city has been waking up to a thick smog and warmer weather for the past few weeks. But, the weather bureau has said winter is not over yet and Mumbai is likely to see a dip in temperatures by at least 2 to 4 degrees in the next few days. The smog is thanks to the accumulated clouds that have gathered due to a change in flow of air at one of the highest levels of airflow or Jet Air. This has trapped dust particles in the air under it.
However, there is a change now in the airflow, which will push the clouds eastwards and clear the air. There is the possibility of a few drizzles and some parts of Maharashtra, like Kolhapur, Satara and Parbhani have already seen rain spells in the past two days.The phenomenon is because of the cross-horizontal band of clouds that has formed over Maharashtra and is right now covering Konkan, Goa, Central and Western Maharashtra.
