1. MHADA To Start Door-To-Door Eligibility Survey From February 16
In order to speed up the Bombay Development Directorate (BDD) Worli Chawl redevelopment project, the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) has decided to do a door-to-door eligibility survey and register agreement with tenants.
Senior MHADA officials said the drive would help in clearing doubts of tenants about the redevelopment plan, for which, MHADA is the nodal agency.
The survey team would explain to tenants about the BDD chawl redevelopment and also the benefits that they were likely to get post completion of the project.

2. Four Foreign Nationals Held For Smuggling Cocaine In Curtains
Four foreign nationals were arrested in Andheri on Sunday for allegedly smuggling cocaine out of the country. The Amboli police have seized cocaine worth ₹39 crore from them. The accused would allegedly load the cocaine inside rings on a curtain and send them abroad by courier.
According to the police, the accused were arrested from Maurya Estate Road, Andheri, based on information from a source. After interrogating the accused, 6 kg cocaine, worth ₹39 crore, was seized from Navi Mumbai.

3. 24x7 Shops, Hotels In Mumbai: Year After Amendment, Cops Deny Permission
More than a year after Maharashtra became the first state to allow shops, hotels and restaurants to remain open 24x7, no establishments can be found open at night as the police deny them permission, citing law and order issues. With food and retail associations moving the state for clarity on the issue, the government has directed the police to come clear on their directives after a meeting held last week.
In January 2018, the state government had issued a notification amending the Shops and Establishments (Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Services) Act to allow shops, malls, restaurants that do not serve alcohol to operate all night long. However, last month, fast food company McDonalds’ permission application to keep more than 100 outlets across the state open 24x7, was turned down by the home department.

4. Out Of 225, BMC Aims To Repair 60 Waterlogging Spots Before Monsoon
Out of the 225 waterlogging spots identified by the civic body across the city in 2017, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) aims to complete repairs at 60 spots ahead of this year’s monsoon. The measures include storm drain augmentation, construction of additional drains, addition of floodgates, remodelling of drains and culvert up-gradation among others.
The BMC had drafted a list of 225 chronic flooding spots after the deluge on August 29, 2017, and introduced remedial measures for same. The chronic flooding spots are where floodwater takes a long time to recede. Before 2018 monsoon, the civic body had finished work at 160 spots. Some areas where work has been completed include Masjid Bunder where floodgates were fixed, Deonar Municipal Colony and Devkabai chawl in Ghatkopar where drain augmentation was undertaken and at Tardeo market where additional stormwater drains were laid.

5. Mumbai Cyber Police Thwart Attempt To Siphon Firm’s ₹20-L Payment In Man-In-The-Middle Attack
The cyber cell at the BKC police station recently thwarted a man-in-the-middle (MITM) attack made on an agriculture trading firm and recovered ₹20 lakh that had been siphoned by the accused.
An MITM attack refers to a cybercrime wherein the attacker hacks into a company’s email account, gathers information about transactions with other firms, and then poses as one of them in order to siphon the money being transacted between the two.
According to police, the complainant company, based in the city, had sold sprouts to a client company based in Madhya Pradesh (MP).
