Government schools educate a large number of students following a curriculum set by their respective state boards. Class 10 results for almost all of these state boards have been declared in the country now.
The Quint takes a look at the board results of five major states in the country. Here’s what we found.
Note: These are not the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) results, but only those of the state boards.
Bihar: Highest Number of Failed Students in 10th Standard
With a percentage as high as over 50 percent, Bihar showed the highest number of students who failed in the class 10th examination. On the other hand, however, Babita Kumari and Trisha Taanvi both became state toppers with scores of 96.6 percent.
Gujarat: Performance Almost As Disappointing as Bihar’s
The Prime Minister’s home state didn’t perform much better than Bihar, with the second-highest number of failed students. However, once again, more girls cleared the examination than boys.
Jharkhand: High Percentage of Failed Students Paints Bleak Picture
Though the high percentage of failed students is similar to its neighbouring state of Bihar, Jharkhand saw a larger number of boys clearing the examination as opposed to girls.
West Bengal: Comfortable Majority Clear Exams
Not only did a large number of students in West Bengal clear the exam, but they also managed to secure high marks. Sauvik Burman from Cooch Bihar was the state topper.
Uttar Pradesh: Results Show Many Passed Students
Uttar Pradesh has provided a relatively comforting picture, with only about 13 percent failing the exam, placing the state ahead of Bihar, Jharkhand and Gujarat. Saumya Patel from Raebareli was the state topper.
