Supreme Court Refuses to Order CBI Probe in Mathura Violence Case

The SC bench refused to interfere since there was no evidence of lapses on the part of state investigating agencies.

  • The Supreme Court on Wednesday refused to allow a CBI probe into the violence in Mathura that left 29 people – including 2 policemen – dead. A vacation bench asked the petitioner to approach the Allahabad High Court for a remedy.

  • During the hearing, Senior Advocate Geeta Luthra, appearing for Delhi BJP spokesperson Ashwini Upadhyay, said that large-scale violence has been reported in the city and evidences are being destroyed. She added that the UP government is not recommending a CBI probe and state investigating agencies are “not doing their work properly”.

  • The vacation bench refused to interfere due to lack of evidence suggesting a lapse on the part of state investigating agencies.
