1. Woman Killed Over ‘Friendship With Youth’

A 20-year-old woman was allegedly killed and buried by family members in a village in Sant Kabir Nagar district, police said on Sunday. The woman’s mother (48), two brothers (27 and 17), uncle and the village head were arrested for the alleged murder.

According to police, the victim was killed because she, despite several warnings from her family, had not ended her friendship with a local youth. She died after being hit on the head by her mother with a stick on 11 May, said police.

The five people were sent to judicial custody, said the SHO of the police station where the case was registered.

Police are on the lookout for three suspects who allegedly tried to help the arrested people in disposing of the body.

2. Two Men Killed in Shootout Below Dwarka Metro Station

Gang rivalry spilled on to the busy streets below Dwarka Mor Metro station Sunday afternoon, when armed assailants tailed and intercepted a white Ritz car, fired more than a dozen rounds and killed a man. Alerted by the sound of gunshots, a PCR officer opened fire at the armed assailants, killing one as others fled the scene.

JCP (Western Range) Madhup Tiwari said, “This was a gang rivalry between two criminal groups. Our PCR staffer fired three rounds after the armed men did not heed his calls to surrender. Parveen Gehlot, who was in the Ritz, died at the spot. One of the assailants, Vikas Dalal, was pronounced dead at a local hospital.”

A member of the Manjeet Mahal gang, Dalal had escaped from police custody at BK Hospital in Faridabad last year. Police have taken the two bodies to a local hospital for a post-mortem.

3. Gang of Four Behind String of Thefts From ATMS Busted

Four men who allegedly swindled Rs 19 lakh from over 88 people by installing skimming machines in ATMs in South and West Delhi were arrested Friday evening.

The accused have been identified as Dharmender Saini (38), Siddharth (30), Sunil Kumar (36) and Mayank Shukla (27), who are residents of Delhi. They were allegedly part of a gang which also operated in other states, police said.

Police first registered a case in the matter on 1 May when one of the victims, Gaurav Shethi, registered a complaint with Tilak Nagar police station for unauthorised withdrawal of Rs 50,000 from his savings account. Over the next seven days, 87 other complainants from the area had approached police with similar complaints.

4. Tent House Owner Booked for Death of 36-Year-Old Man

A few hours after a 36-year-old labourer died when a tent collapsed on him in Block Q of Sector 40, the police on Saturday night booked the owner of the tent house.

The police said that the owner is yet to be arrested.

According to the police, Rajesh Mandal, the deceased, was setting up a tent for a night-long Jagran (a religious musical gathering). The incident took place on Saturday around 10.30am.

“Rajesh and I were working together inside the tent. We had told the owner of the tent house that the structure was fragile and might fall. But he did not concede and told us to continue working. On Saturday, the tent came down and Rajesh was crushed under the weight of the steel pipes,” Shatrughan Mandal, the victim’s brother-in-law, said in the first information report (FIR).

5. Mumbai Businessman Abducted From Luxury Hotel, Rescued

In an overnight operation, the Delhi Police rescued a 64-year-old Mumbai-based businessman who was abducted from a luxury hotel in New Delhi on Friday night and confined in a building in east Delhi’s Laxmi Nagar. The police said that the man had fallen victim to a honey trap and a ransom amount of Rs 30 lakh had been demanded for his release. The police have arrested four women and two men for the abduction.

A police officer who was probing the case, but is not authorised to speak to the media, said that they got a call around 10.50pm on Friday from one of the businessman’s friends reporting that he had been abducted.

6. Four Arrested for Kidnapping, Killing Friend

Four persons were arrested on Saturday for abducting and killing a man in Greater Noida in order to avoid repaying him the money they had borrowed from him.

On the night of 15 May , four men the police identified by their first names as Prashant, Akhil, Gaurav and Varun, abducted Mohit Nagar (27) in a white Honda Amaze, pumped five bullets into him, and dumped his body in a canal in order to avoid repaying Rs 10 lakh they had borrowed from him in Ecotech 3 area of in Greater Noida.

According to the police, the men returned to the neighbourhood after the crime and misled the family in ‘searching’ for the victim.

7. Man Returning Home After Voting Allegedly Killed by Neighbours in Punjab

A man was brutally murdered in full public view allegedly by his neighbours following a heated argument over some issue, even as polling for the last phase of Lok Sabha elections took place in Punjab's Tarn Taran district on Sunday.

The incident occurred at Sarli Kalan village under the Khadoor Sahib parliamentary constituency when 30-year-old Bunty Singh was returning home after voting, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kuldip Singh Chahal said.

He, however, clarified that the incident was not related to the polling.

"This murder is not related to the ongoing polls and is not an incident of poll violence," he told the reporters in Tarn Taran.

8. 50-Year-Old Man Allegedly Hacked to Death in Rajasthan

A 50-year-old man was allegedly hacked to death with an axe in Rajasthan's Bundi district, the police said.

Police said that Gopal Bheel was killed by a man who suspected that he was getting close to the woman he was in a relationship with.

The accused had been in a relationship with a widow since five years. He confessed to police that he killed the man because he was causing problems between him and the woman.

On Saturday, the woman had gone to attend a wedding in a neighbouring. When the accused went to her place, the accused found the man sleeping there. Furious, he attacked the man with an axe.

9. Woman Allegedly Gang Raped in Rajasthan's Bikaner

A woman was allegedly gangraped by three people near Rajasthan's Bikaner when she had gone to collect firewood, police said on Sunday.

The alleged incident happened on 15 May, Chhatargarh police station in-charge Sandeep Kumar said, adding the woman registered the complaint along with her husband only in the early hours of 18 May.

The woman said she arrived at the police station in the early hours of Monday to file her complaint so she would not get "noticed".

After an FIR and a medical examination of the woman, three accused- Aarif, Dinesh and Banwari- were detained, the station house officer added.
