1. Five Years Ago, One of Aligarh Accused Was Booked for Rape of His Daughter

One of the men accused in the murder of a two-year-old girl in Aligarh had earlier been arrested for the alleged rape of his own seven-year-old daughter, and was out on bail, police have told The Indian Express.

According to police, the accused (name withheld to protect the identity of a minor victim) had a total of four previous cases pending against him — filed under various IPC sections, including 376 (rape), 354 (assault with intention to outrage modesty of a woman) and 363 (kidnapping). He was accused of raping his daughter in 2014 on the basis of a complaint by a relative. The area SHO said he was granted bail some months later.

2. 12 Indians Killed in Dubai Bus Accident

At least 12 Indians were among 17 people killed when a bus packed with Eid vacationers entered a restricted lane and rammed into a low-clearance height barrier in the United Arab Emirates city, local police and the Indian mission said on Friday.

Nine persons were also seriously injured when the driver of the bus, coming from Oman’s capital Muscat to Dubai, entered a road not designated for buses around 6pm on Thursday while heading for the Al Rashidiya metro station in Dubai.

3. Rajasthan Gives Clean Chit to SP in Alwar Rape Case, FIR Against Station Officer

The Rajasthan government on Friday gave a clean chit to Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Rajeev Pachar, a month after he was removed from the post of Alwar superintendent of police for his alleged dereliction of duty in connection with a gang-rape case, according to a government statement.

A 19-year-old Dalit woman was gang-raped by five men in front of her husband on April 26 in Thanagazi, Alwar. The Rajasthan government had drawn criticism from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bahuajan Samaj Party chief Mayawati during the Lok Sabha election campaign for delay in lodging the FIR in the case and not taking action until a purported video of the sexual assault began circulating on social media.

4. Karan Oberoi Gets Bail in Rape and Extortion Case

TV actor Karan Oberoi, who was arrested on May 5 on charges of rape and extortion levelled against him by a tantrik-cum-healer, was granted bail on a bond of `50,000 by the Bombay High Court yesterday. The judgment came a month after the actor was arrested and sent to judicial custody three days later (May 9) by the Andheri Magistrate Court.

The hearing, which was scheduled to take place on Thursday before the High Court, was postponed by a day after the public prosecutor asked for more time to go through the papers pertaining to the case.

5. Sacked Driver Found Dead Behind MP’s Bungalow in South Avenue

Two suspected assailants murdered a 52-year-old jobless man in the servant quarters behind the bungalow of a Member of Parliament in South Avenue area on Friday, police said.

Suresh Saini had been sacked as driver of an MP for his alleged involvement in gambling and betting.

Police said Saini owed money to a lot of people and it is suspected that a monetary dispute could be one of the reasons behind his murder.

Police said they are probing the case from all angles and are yet to rule out or identify any person’s involvement in the murder.

6. Jeweller Killed in Outer Delhi

A 36-year-old jeweller, Ram Singh, was shot dead inside his shop in outer Delhi’s Balaji Chowk near Ranhola on Friday. Family members said that the jewellery counter was found empty.

Police are looking for an eyewitness or a CCTV footage to identify the accused. At 2pm, Singh’s wife called him several times but got no answer. She then asked his brother to check on him at the shop. His brother found Singh lying in a pool of blood behind his counter. Singh’s licensed revolver was found near him, said DCP (outer) Seju Kuruvilla.

7. Delhi: Woman Alleges Rape by Professor, FIR Registered

A woman was allegedly raped by a professor of a premier higher education institute in Jodhpur at a Noida guest house Thursday afternoon, police said.

According to police, the alleged incident took place when the woman went to meet the professor to seek his help in finding a job. Police said he had “either studied or worked with” the woman in the past. Police were yet to make an arrest Friday night, and said they are confirming the professor’s credentials.

A senior officer said, “The woman went to meet him to give her resume, so that he could help her in finding employment in a field he was connected with. Later, she approached police with a complaint alleging that he had raped her. We have registered an FIR in this matter.”

8. 22-Year-Old Man Arrested for Making Lewd Gesture at Woman in a Metro

A 22-year-old man was arrested at Huda City Centre (HCC) Metro station for allegedly sexually harassing a 34-year-old woman passenger on a Metro train, police said on Friday.

The incident took place on Thursday between 2.45pm and 3.45pm between Iffco Chowk and HCC Metro stations. According to police, in March too, the accused was booked for a similar incident at Metro police station.

In her police complaint, the woman, a resident of Delhi, said that she was sitting in a coach when the accused stood near her, unzipped his pants and made a lewd gesture.

9. Delhi: BSP Leader Held for Ponzi Scheme That Duped 2 Lakh People

A BSP leader who allegedly cheated more than 2 lakh investors through his company surrendered before a local court Friday.

Sanjay Bhati, the alleged owner of Garvit Innovators Promoters Limited (GIPL), was accused of cheating people under the garb of a “multi-level marketing scheme”called ‘BikeBot’, which promised to double people’s investment within a year.

The surrender comes a day after the franchise head of the company, Vijay Pal Kasna, was arrested from Meerut.
