2. What Next for Hardik Patel After HC Refuses to Stay Conviction ?

The verdict of Gujarat High Court (HC) is being seen as a major setback for Hardik Patel set to contest Lok Sabha elections from Jamnagar constituency of Saurashtra region.

As the verdict has put Hardik’s electoral fortune in the sphere of uncertainty, sources say that Hardik’s chances of getting relief against the HC order from the Supreme court are very dim.

After the Gujarat HC rejected his application to stay the conviction ordered by Visnagar court, Hardik may challenge the verdict before the Supreme Court. His close aides said that they were considering the legal option of approaching the top court, but no decision was taken yet.

If moved, Hardik’s petition before the apex court, most probably, may be heard by the SC at the earliest on Monday (1 April).

3. BJP, Cong Yet to Name Candidates on Some LS Seats in Gujarat

The BJP and the Congress are still grappling with selection of candidates on some Lok Sabha seats in Gujarat, where the process of filing of nomination papers is underway.

4. Congress Mulls Nominating Paresh Dhanani From Amreli Seat

Faced with too many claimants for Amreli Lok Sabha, the Congress is strongly considering fielding leader of opposition Paresh Dhanani as its candidate from the seat, party sources said.

The Congress has lost the Amreli Lok Sabha seat in every election since 1991 barring 2004, but many believe that the BJP is on a sticky wicket and that it is a sure-shot seat for Congress in the coming electoral battle.

They pointed out Congress candidates had won from five of the seven assembly segments that form the Amreli LS seat in the 2017 elections – all of them with comfortable margins - with the BJP winning the remaining two.
