There are shots of a black kurta, a beaded chain around the neck, sunglasses and a white beard. The somersaults and dance moves slow down as the superstar walks in with absolute style.
The teaser for Rajinikanth's much-awaited film Kaala may not have had the ideal release – it was released at midnight on 2 March, after a scene from the film was leaked.
Actor Dhanush, who is producing the movie, shared the video on Twitter, saying, "It is Diwali whenever and however Thalaivar's (Rajinikanth's) film is released".
With over two million views and counting in under 12 hours, the teaser opens with actor Nana Patekar – who plays the main antagonist – asking, "What sort of a name is this?" Rajinikanth then makes his entry to the voice-over: "Kaala means black. One who protects by fighting".
The teaser features Rajinikanth, who dons the role of a gangster in the film, beating up the ‘bad men’ and flaunting his trademark walk and laugh.
The dialogue, “I’m alone. If you have guts all of you come together,” already has the makings of a cult classic.
The teaser has also been released in Telugu and Hindi.
This is the superstar’s second film with director Pa Ranjith after Kabali in 2015. Santhosh Narayanan has composed the music.
Kaala also stars Huma Qureshi, Anjali Patil, Eswari Rao and Pankaj Tripathi. Kaala is slated for release on 27 April.
