Congress leader and MP Jyotiraditya Scindia turned saviour when his co-passenger on the Bhopal Shatabdi Express had a heart attack on the outskirts of Delhi. In the absence of any medical assistance, Scindia called Railway Minister Piyush Goyal and ensured that the girl was transported to a hospital, reports
India Today.

The incident took place around midnight, when the train from Agra to Delhi had stopped for nearly two hours at the outer signal in Delhi. According to India Today, “the girl, who was sitting across Scindia, felt chest pain and collapsed.” Scindia asked for emergency medical facilities on the train, but was informed that there were no such available arrangements.

Action Draws Attention to Lack of Facilities

After Scindia’s call, an ambulance was sent by the Railways at around 2:30 am, which took the girl to the hospital. The incident has drawn attention to the lack of medical facilities in the Railways, apart from Scindia’s action being praised.

Reacting to the incident, Agra Tourist Welfare Chamber Secretary Vishal Sharma told India Today that, “Stopping the train for this long at the outer signal and then failing to provide medical assistance to a seriously ill passenger are both very alarming examples of callousness on the part of the railways.”
