1. UP Rape Survivor Set Ablaze on Way to Court, Battles for Life at Delhi Hospital

A rape survivor from Unnao was battling for life with 90 per cent burns on Thursday after five men, including two of the accused, allegedly set her on fire while she was on her way to court, police said.

One of the two men accused of raping her last year was granted bail 10 days back. The other man had been on the run.

All the five men involved in the Thursday morning attack were arrested within hours and the victim airlifted in the evening to Delhi's Safdarjung Hospital.

The woman said in a statement that she was on her way from her village in Unnao district to Rae Bareli where the trial is going on when she was attacked.

Doctors attending on her at the Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Hospital in Lucknow said she is in a "very serious" condition.

2. Fed Up With Ill-Treatment, Two Women ‘Kill’ Husband

Two women were arrested for allegedly killing their husband in suburban Goregaon on Thursday morning, the police said.

The women were allegedly fed up with the ill-treatment at the hands of their husband, Raju Waghmare (32).

Waghmare, resident of Bhagat Singh Nagar slum, worked as a security guard.

He had two wives, Savita and Sarita, and four children, a police official said.

He was a habitual drinker, and used to beat up the two women almost every day, the official said.

Fed up with his behavior, Savita and Sarita allegedly smothered Waghmare with a pillow when he was asleep on Thursday morning.

3. Woman Shot At, Critically Injured by Two Motorcyle-Borne Men in Ghaziabad

A 45-year-old woman was shot at and critically injured by two motorcycle-borne assailants in broad day light on Thursday while waiting for an auto at a bus stand in Loni near here along with her sister, said police.

Victim Indira Verma who received the bullet shot in the back of her head was rushed to GTB Hospital in Shahdara and is battling for the life, said Loni Deputy Superintendent of police Raj kumar Pandey.

Verma, who lived in Ganga Vihar Colony at Gokulpuri in Delhi along with her two grown up sons, had visited her sister Sudesh Verma at Balrampur in Loni, he said, adding the two sisters had later visited their cousin Seema living in the same area.

4. Five Men Arrested for Kidnapping, Killing Businessman in Delhi

Five men have been arrested for allegedly kidnapping and killing a 64-year-old businessman from south Delhi's Greater Kailash last month, police said on Thursday.

Arun Sharma was abducted and strangulated on November 15 and his body disposed of the same day near Jhansi in Uttar Pradesh, they said.

The accused have been identified as Dr Rishi Rajpal Singh Chauhan, (64), Hitesh Chauhan (29), Amet Vikram Chhabra (32), Priyank Khanna (34) and Sahil (25), all residents of Gurgaon. They were arrested on Wednesday, police said.

The mobile phones and a car used in the crime were recovered by the police.

5. Teacher Shot Dead Outside School in Punjab, Husband Prime Suspect

A woman teacher was shot dead on Thursday outside her school in Punjab's Mohali district in front of her five-year-old daughter who was accompanying her, police said.

The woman's husband has emerged as prime suspect in the case, they said.

Sarabjit Kaur, who was in her early 30s, was attacked in the morning when she was parking her scooter outside the school in Kharar town, Superintendent of Police (Investigations), Mohali, Harmandeep Singh Hans said over the phone.

The shooter had covered his face with a shawl and fled after the incident, he said.

The teacher's five-year-old daughter, who studies in the school, was accompanying her at the time of the incident, he said.
