Security was tightened around all the major Sikh shrines in Punjab. 'Langars' (community kitchen) were arranged at most gurdwaras.

Nankana Sahib, the birthplace of Guru Nanak, located 100 km from Lahore, Pakistan, also celebrated the revered saint’s birth anniversary. Nearly 2,600 Sikh devotees have gone to Pakistan to celebrate Gurpurab at Nankana Sahib.
