In a shocking incident, a 10-day-old infant died in a hospital in Andhra Pradesh after he was allegedly bitten by rats in the intensive care unit of a state-run hospital.
Laxmi, a native of Vijayawada, brought her baby boy to the Guntur General Hospital on August 18, after he developed a urinary infection.
The infant was operated on August 20 and was kept in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) after the operation, to be monitored.
An NDTV report adds that the hospital had placed rat traps in the ICU when the parents noticed the rats, but to no avail, as the child was bitten the next day.
Officials at the Guntur General Hospital maintain that the newborn died early on Wednesday morning because of complications from the surgery, the report adds.
