National Career Service, the government's employment exchange portal has been able to provide jobs for 7,07,000 or just 1.8 percent of the 39.1 million registered people, Hindustan Times reported quoting Parliament’s Estimates Committee's observation.

The panel, led by Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) senior leader Murli Manohar Joshi, has also reportedly criticised the Ministry of Labour and the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) for lack of adequate and real-time data to gauge unemployment levels.

The panel is reportedly unhappy with the fact that the most recent accurate data available on employment is from 2011-12.

The data available for private and unorganised sector is inadequate and that on skilled and unskilled jobs is not enough as well, the report added.

In another significant observation, the panel has reportedly said India's unorganised sector accounts for 98 percent of the jobs. It has used this data to criticise the labour ministry's Quarterly Employment Survey, which the panel says, does not cover the unorganised sector.

However, at least three BJP MPs in the committee have reportedly rejected the panel's observations and submitted dissent notes against the report, which is expected to be submitted in the upcoming Budget Session of Parliament.

One of the three dissent notes reportedly claims that construction of toilets, delivery of gas connections and construction work of new AIIMS campuses have "generated tremendous employment."
