The Goa Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar said on Thursday that the information gathered after interrogating Sameer Sardana, a former senior Army officer’s son, has raised “serious suspicions.”

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) team was in Goa to interrogate the suspect. He is the son of a former Major General, but for past many years he was not staying with his family.

Sardana was arrested yesterday on suspicion after he was found lingering at the Vasco railway station with five passports and a laptop. Parsekar said Sardana had changed his religion from “Hindu to Islamic” and has visited several countries including a few Islamic ones.

Earlier in the day, a senior ATS official said that the NIA sleuths arrived this morning and they have been questioning Sardana at the Ribander office of the crime branch.

The Goa police is on alert after a letter purportedly written by ISIS, threatening to kill Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar, was received on January 13 by the state secretariat, which was handed over to the ATS.
