For Gurpurab, Delhi’s Gurudwara Panel Decides to Avoid Crackers

The Panel’s decision was taken keeping in mind Delhi’s pollution and will be conveyed to all 700 Sabhas in the city

Amidst the apocalyptic doom of Delhi’s air, here’s finally some good news. The Delhi Sikh Gurudwara Committee (DSGC) has made a decision to not burst crackers on Gurpurab which falls on 14 November. The Committee’s decision will be conveyed to all 700 Singh Sabhas in the city,

The decision comes as the city is engulfed in noxious smog as the city’s air quality index stands at 552.

The DSGMC president Manjeet Singh GK told The Times of India,

We have decided not to burn any fire crackers this year on Gurpurab which is celebrated by the Sikh community like Diwlai. The idea is to spread awareness about the need to focus on environment friendly ways to celebrate a festival. We also plan to conduct awareness through marches led by school children to appeal to people to join the fight against pollution.

‘No Power to Impose a Ban’

The DSGMC has not imposed a ban on crackers on Gurpurab. However, the DSGMC hopes that their decision will have a positive influence on the Sikh community in Delhi.

In fact, the DSGMC has also decided to distribute air masks around Bangla Saheb near Connaught Place and Sisganj in Chandni Chowk. These masks will be available for everyone, Monday evening onwards.
