Delhi High Court today disallowed the withdrawal of a plea against Delhi Law Minister Jitender Singh Tomar which alleged that he had enrolled himself as an advocate on basis of a “false and bogus” graduation degree.

Justice Rajiv Shakdher declined the request made by petitioner Santosh Kumar Sharma, who had approached the court last month alleging that Tomar was not a science graduate from Avadh University, as he has claimed, and said this needs consideration.

“I am surprised that an advocate (Sharma) has filed the petition and now he wants to withdraw it. These are all tactics to pressurise people. It’s sad that you (Sharma) come like this,” the judge said, adding the respondents need to make their stand clear.

On February 4, a few days before Delhi Assembly Elections, the High Court had sought responses of Bar Council of India and Tomar, on a plea alleging that he got himself enrolled as an advocate on the basis of a “false and bogus” graduation degree, on Sharma’s plea.

The Delhi BJP demanded the resignation of Law Minister.

“Faizabad’s RML Avadh University in a letter to Bar Council of Delhi said the degree on the basis of which minister Jitender Singh Tomar enrolled in a LLB course is bogus. The varsity has denied issuing any degree to Tomar,” Leader of BJP Legislature Party, Vijendra Gupta said in a press conference.

“The AAP government’s first month showing has disappointed the people of Delhi. It has failed to bring the Delhi Budget on time and has gone in for Vote on Account, which should be resorted to only in rare circumstances. It’s sad that government could not give priority to such an important issue,” Guptal told reporters here.
