An FIR was registered against Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chief, Swati Maliwal on Tuesday, for allegedly revealing the identity of a 14-year-old Dalit rape victim.

Delhi Police said Maliwal circulated a notice which revealed the minor’s name, breaching a law, which clearly prohibits naming a rape victim in any report or public document.

The girl was repeatedly raped by her neighbour in North Delhi’s Burari area on 23 July, and corrosive liquid was forced down her throat, damaging her internal organs. She died on Sunday in the hospital in which she was admitted.

The contents of the notice, with the victim’s name, were circulated on WhatsApp. Later her name was whitened-out in the notice.

Certain news channels, which also broadcast the name of the victim will be summoned and questioned about why they did not protect her identity.
