Compensation for Terror Victims Hiked to 5 Lakh: Union Cabinet

In a first, cross-border firing victims will be compensated along with other terror victims.

  • On Wednesday, the Union Cabinet approved a hike in the compensation given to civilian victims of terrorism from Rs 3 lakh to Rs 5 lakh.

  • Cross-border firing and Mine/IED (improvised explosive device) explosions have been added to the list of attacks in which victims are to be compensated along with victims of terrorist and communal activities, and Left-Wing Extremist violence.

  • The compensation will be given to the next of kin of the victim as well as victims who sustain 50 percent or more disability or incapacitation due to the same reasons.
