The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday, 4 March, rejected a request from Indrani Mukerjea, the main accused in the murder case of her daughter Sheena Bora, to undergo a polygraph or lie-detector test.

Mukerjea had submitted a two-page handwritten application in February, asking permission to take a polygraph test “in the name of justice,” Hindustan Times had reported.

The CBI, however, told the court that it did not require her to undergo the tests and had collected sufficient evidence. It also said that the tests were not admissible as evidence, as per ANI.

The central probe agency also informed the court that Mukerjea’s consent was sought for a lie detector test at the initial stages of the investigation but she had refused the at that time.

“I had not given my consent at that time because I was under tremendous pressure not to undergo the test. I had succumbed to such pressure at that stage because I was in a state of shock, mentally disturbed and vulnerable and physically very unwell,” Mukerjea had said in her letter, as per the report.

She is currently lodged in Mumbai's Byculla jail.
