After the Bihar Board scam, now the Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB) is in the news for a bizarre reason. A Class 12 student decided to check his own Economics paper, using red ink, before handing it in to the supervisor, according to The Times of India. Naturally, he gave himself full marks.
A copying case has been filed against the student, Harshad Sarvaiya.
The Board said the student had marked his own papers in two subjects – geography and economics. While the teachers caught the discrepancy in his geography paper, Sarvariya’s result reflected a 100/100 in economics.
GSHSEB secretary of examination, GD Patel reportedly said he will be summoned before a reforms committee, and will, in all likelihood, be debarred from appearing in the two examinations, if found guilty.
There has also been a serious lapse in the teacher’s assessing the paper, Patel said, and a showcause notice has been issued, the report added.
Sarvariya was caught when the computer software, used to compile results for the Board, threw up irregularities. The marksheet showed lopsided results where he scored full marks in economics, but did poorly in four other subjects.
