BSP leader Rajesh Yadav was shot dead close to Allahabad University early on Tuesday morning.
Yadav had gone for a dinner to the university’s Tarachand hostel with his friend Dr Mukul Singh in a Fortuner. They stayed there till late, when around 2:30 am, he got into an argument with some people there and fished out his revolver.

It was then that he was fatally shot three times in the stomach. Dr Singh took Yadav to Raj Niwas Home in a critical state, where he died during surgery.
By daybreak, clashes had broken out on the university campus between the students, BSP supporters and the police.
They took to stone-pelting and arson and also burned a public bus. Police are currently investigating the circumstances that led to the murder.
The campus has now been locked and police have been deployed to bring the situation under control.
Police said that some money was found in the BSP leader’s car and that it was also pelted with stones.
Originally from Bhadohi’s Dugguna village, Yadav fought the 2017 Lok Sabha elections from the Jaunpur seat and was also in-charge of Jaunpur. Yadav lived in Haritkunj apartments, behind Company Bagh in Allahabad.
