A three-year-old daughter of a labourer was allegedly raped by her 14-year-old neighbour on Tuesday, 16 January, in Hisar, the Hindustan Times reported. The 14-year-old boy was arrested the same day by the Haryana Police.
“A police team arrested the accused around noon from his home where he was hiding. The boy may be produced in a local court later today (Wednesday, 17 January),” Haryana Police spokesperson Chander Bhan told HT.
This case comes at a time when the state come under spotlight for increasing instances of sexual assault on women. There have been more than 1,000 rapes reported in Haryana in the last two years, including rapes of minors.
The girl's parents were at work when the incident took place at around 7.30 pm. The complaint said that the girl narrated the incident to her parents when they returned from work, after which the parents took the girl to the women's police station.
The 3-year-old was then taken to a local hospital for medical check-up by investigation officer Saroj Bala around midnight. The girl's family hails from Bihar. When the girl was alone at her house, the teenage neighbour persuaded her to go with him to another place, where he allegedly raped her.
The accused also threatened the girl with severe consequences if she told anyone about the incident. Police told HT that the accused juvenile comes from a middle-class family.
