Primitive ways of justice still prevail in many villages of India.
A panchayat in Bhagpat, Uttar Pradesh, made an infuriating ruling in favour of three men accused of gangraping a 15-year-old girl. The accused were set free by the local panchayat after receiving five slaps each.
The young girl was allegedly kidnapped on her way to school and gangraped. The three ‘free men’ are now absconding.
A police complaint has been filed with the Bhagpat police against the three men as well as the panchayat.
